Donny Lia showed the Modified world on Wednesday night what he is made of. There were 46,000 fans who watched the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event in person at Bristol Motor Speedway (TN), and a countless more who watched it televised on SPEED. These fans all watched Lia and the Mystic Missile Racing team muscle their way to victory, beating 39 of the best Mod drivers in the nation.

“What an awesome racetrack,” said Lia. “I can’t believe we are racing here. I mean, Modifieds at Bristol. What more could you ask for? Just unbelievable.”

The 2007 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion picked up his second Tour victory of the year, after an intense battle with Ted Christopher. Lia took the lead on lap 108 and led until a late race caution was brought out for rain.

On the restart, NASCAR deemed that Lia jumped before the green, and was ordered to give up his advantage to Christopher who was second. It didn’t take him long to regain the top spot, making the winning pass on lap 143 and sailing to victory for the final laps around the ‘Worlds Fastest Half Mile’.

“We were so good, and I couldn’t believe, we were just so good. The guys made great adjustments at the halfway break. We really nailed it. When you beat Ted Christopher, you know you’ve beaten the best. Straight up, the guy is the best, and you want to beat the best.”

The next event up for Donny and the Mystic Missile Racing Team will be at the 3/8th mile Chemung Speedway in New York.
