Donny Lia Has Tough Luck at Martinsville
Good Car, Team and Driver Don't Matter Much Without Good Luck
To win races, you need to have a good car, a capable driver, a quick pit crew and a little bit of luck.
Donny Lia and the #18 Lia Motorsports, Inc. team had three of those four items at Martinsville Speedway as the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour made history by racing under the lights for the first time at the legendary track.  Lia started eighth and was making his way towards the front when contact with Southern Modified Tour driver Bobby Hutchins damaged his racecar and put a damper on the night.

“We had an awesome racecar capable of winning,” said Lia.  “Trouble just found us.  We were in the position to do really well and that got taken away.  There was nothing that we could do about it.”
Lia went 30 laps down because of the incident.  His team didn’t give up and he rebounded to finish 20th, but that was far from what he had hoped for from the evening.

Lia will next take on Thompson International Speedway (CT) for the Sunoco 300 this weekend.  Qualifying will take place on Saturday, September 10th and the race is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, September 11th.
