Wall Flash Race is a Tough One for Donny
#4 Gets Caught in a Wreck, Finishes Fourth
When NASCAR rolled out their new “flash” race procedure at Wall Township Speedway (NJ) for the latest Whelen Modified Tour race held there on Sunday afternoon, there was a lot of buzz about it.  Heading into the race, some drivers hated the concept while others were open-minded.

Donny Lia went into the event not saying much, but instead planned to just do his job and race.  Unfortunately, the physical style of racing brought about by the 50-lap heat race and 50-lap feature flash format led to Lia being sucked right into a multi-car wreck.  Lia actually had another competitor go over his #4 car during one of the multiple incidents during the race.

“I don’t know, I never really thought about it much,” said Lia.  “They put us in that situation and then you try to race. I just wanted to come and try to stay out of trouble and get a decent finish and I did not do that. We got caught up in stuff.”

Lia stayed on the lead lap and finished 14th in the event.

Lia will return to action on May 25th when the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour returns to Stafford Motor Speedway, using a traditional 150-lap race format.
