Donny Lia’s Big Month of Mod Racing Leads To New Hampshire
Mod Tour Has Three of Their Biggest Races Back-To-Back-To-Back
September is a big month for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.  There are three events on the Tour schedule; maybe not as heavy as at some other points in the season, but when you look at what three races those are, quality far outweighs quantity.
Donny Lia and his fellow competitors will race at two NASCAR Nextel Cup Series tracks and also share the stage with four other types of Modifieds in a special event at Thompson during that three-week span.  Stops at Martinsville Speedway (VA) and Thompson International Speedway (CT) for Modified Mania were big, but the cherry on top of the sundae is the New Hampshire100 at New Hampshire International Speedway on Friday, September 15th.

“I’m really looking forward to New Hampshire,” said Lia.  “It’s such a great facility and we’ve been running well there lately.  We had an awesome car there in July.”
Even though Lia had an engine failure that halted his chances to contend for the victory there in July, Lia’s enthusiasm for the track hasn’t dulled one bit.

“I just love New Hampshire.  I love the racetrack and we get around there really well.  I think that we’ll be even better this time and that’s scary because we were just awesome last time when we had motor trouble.  If we hadn’t had the trouble, I think that we would have easily finished in the top three.”

Lia has had more than his share of bad luck this summer, running up front but encountering various problems that have kept him from finishing there.  But he has not changed his game heading into September’s big races at all.  He’s not taking any different of an approach for NHIS either.

“It’s just like any other week.  I’m going out there to win every race.  I’m down in the points and have had terrible luck lately.  I’m not looking at the big picture now, I’m thinking about what is going to get me the most points in each race and that’s winning races.  That’s what we are going out to do now.  I’m going to drive my racecar as hard as I possibly can every time and that’s it.  We need good finishes right now.”
